The Mauna Kea Soil and Water Conservation District meets from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Natural Resources Conservation Service center, 67-1185 Mamalahoa Hwy, Suite 148, Waimea.

Anyone who requires an accommodation or auxiliary aid to attend the meeting should call Margaret Fowler at 885-6602, ext. 100.

County offers summer classes for seniors

Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation Elderly Activities Division announces summer classes open to those 55 and older.

The summer session runs through Sept 6. Most registration fees are $10 per session and can be paid at the West Hawaii Civic Center or to the class instructor. West Hawaii classes include:

c Line Dancing, 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Waikoloa Community Church

c Line Dancing, 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays beginning Aug. 7, Waimea Community Center

c Line Dance Aerobics, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays, Hale Halawai

c Line Dance Classes, 10:15 a.m. Mondays, Kona Daifukuji

c Aquatic Aerobic/Swim Classes at the Kona Community Pool:

Deep Water Aerobics, 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays

Beginner Adult Swim Lessons, 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays

Intermediate Adult Swim Lessons, 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursdays

c Senior Fitness Classes: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Mondays, Kona Aerial Gymnastics gym; 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Hale Halawai; 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursdays, Kona Daifukuji, beginning in August

Women’s committee meeting Friday

The Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women meets at 10 a.m. Friday at Waimea Center, 65-1158 Mamalahoa Highway, Suite 2C. The public is welcome to attend.

Mahalo dinner to follow Waimea Town Meeting

A chili and rice dinner and potluck honoring emergency responders will follow Thursday’s Waimea Town Meeting with Mayor Billy Kenoi and his Cabinet.

The loss of 19 firefighters in an Arizona wildfire has community members thinking about everyday heroes who put their lives on the line daily to protect families, property and natural and cultural resources.

All of Waimea’s full-time and volunteer emergency responders and their families are invited. The town meeting begins at 5:15 p.m. The dinner begins at 7 p.m. Meeting attendees, with the exception of emergency responders, should bring a potluck salad, side dish or dessert.

Delegate to NFB convention to speak

The National Federation of the Blind West Hawaii chapter will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Regency at Hualalai, 75-181 Hualalai Road in Kailua-Kona. The group’s delegate to the NFB national convention in Orlando, Keola Hegent, will share his experience and what he learned on his first trip to the mainland.
